Woodmere Serviced Apartments Facade

I contributed to the design of the golden lasercut facade screen for Woodmere Grand Hotel & Serviced Apartments in Kilimani, Nairobi, as well as painting the concept artwork for the mural on the left of the facade screen.

This involved 3D visualization of various patterns, testing of prototypes, preparing tender documents, receiving and processing quotations and finally production. It also included custom designing brackets to take into account the locations of the windows and to allow for a clean ‘frameless’ installation, joints invisible from afar, and the subsequent supervision during installation.

The function of the facade screen was threefold

1. To reduce the solar radiation received to keep the apartments cool. The wall faces the east, therefore would receive direct sunlight.
2. To create privacy for the E-series apartments whose lounge windows faced the main driveway.
3. To be a visual icon for the building, a shimmering golden attraction that would make it a landmark for the greater Kilimani area.
